Rohit Sharma Biography
Rohit Sharma, along with teammate Robin Uthappa, was a youngster who confidently came off the blocks to aid in India’s success at the inaugural ICC World T20 in 2007. A fifty in only his third ODI innings while chasing an elusive target against Pakistan later in the year, combined with sensational all-round displays in the IPL, convinced many to regard Sharma as the future of Indian cricket.
Sharma kept his place in the ODI team since then, either as a lower or a higher middle-order batsman but was unfortunately not selected to play in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. Often, despite Sharma scoring decent knocks it eventually resulted in Indian defeats, a quality reminiscent of his contemporary Sachin Tendulkar. He was in line to make his Test debut against South Africa in 2010 replacing an injured Laxman, but a last-minute injury to Sharma himself deferred a maiden Test cap. However, Rohit Sharma continued to display his brilliant class in the domestic circuit, scoring heavily in the Ranji Trophy and contributing majorly in the IPL, first for Deccan Chargers and later, for the Mumbai Indians.
