Dinesh Chandimal

Dinesh Chandimal Biography
Chandimal first came into the limelight when his brilliantly composed 111 helped Sri Lanka knock India out of the 2010 tri-nation tournament in Zimbabwe. The Balapitiya born youngster is very highly rated in domestic circles and is widely expected to take over the wicket-keeping gloves from incumbent Kumar Sangakkara in future.
A prolific scorer since his schooling days, Chandimal continued his rich vein of form for Sri Lanka’s Under-19 sides and was part of the Islanders 2008 Under-19 WC squad. Sangakkara who was versed with the youngster’s batting talents recommended him to Nondescripts Cricket Club and Chandimal showed glimpses of his talent with a maiden century against a strong visiting Kiwi lineup. Following a fine Interprovincial Twenty20 tournament, he was quickly drafted into Sri Lanka’s 2010 T20 WC squad and on debut scored a quickfire 29 in 23 balls.
An attacking batsman who loves to cut the ball as was evident in his maiden century against the Indians, Chandimal is also a technically gifted keeper with quick reflexes. Earlier in August 2010, Sangakkara stated that one or two places in the middle order had to be settled prior to the 2011 WC and which will be an added impetus for the teenager to make it to the event as the second choice wicket-keeper.
